Joal Fadiouth - Saloum Delta
DAY 1: DAKAR - FADIOUTH - SIMAL (Approx. 145 km / 03h00)
Departure in the morning. Road to Joal, birthplace of the first President of Senegal, Léopold Sédar Senghor. Visit the island of Fadiouth, by canoe and on foot. Shell Island is a Christian island while Joal is Muslim. It is a fine example of tolerance that we find in the visit to the cemetery where Christian and Muslim burials meet.
Visit the millet granaries, the Saint François Xavier church, the cemetery and stroll through the streets of Fadiouth. Lunch at
restaurant La Taverne du Pêcheur, facing the shell island.
Return to the track passing through the palm forest and the village of Fadial to visit one of the largest baobabs in the country. Arrival at Simal Ecolodge by the Saloum River late in the afternoon. Dinner and night at Simal Ecolodge.
DAY 2: SIMAL- DAKAR (Approximately 140km / 03h00)
After breakfast, several choices of activities: canoe trip in the bolongs and bird watching, introduction to traditional fishing: longline fishing, horseback riding in the surrounding area, lunch in Simal and return at the end of the afternoon -noon.
