Discovery of Senegal

Day 1: ARRIVAL DAKAR
Welcome on arrival by our team and transfer to your hotel. Installation and night at the Onomo hotel Dakar.

DAY 2: DAKAR – GOREE – DAKAR (Approximately 25 minutes Ferry/journey)
After breakfast, orientation tour of the Senegalese capital, intoxicating with color and movement. Lunch in a local restaurant and departure for the island of Gorée, 25 minutes by rowboat from Dakar. This natural fort was for 5 centuries a stopover fiercely contested by Europeans and the main trading post for slaves leaving for the Americas; it is classified as a UNESCO world heritage site. Visit the curiosities of the island: the Castel and its panoramic view, the slave house built in 1776, the Saint Charles church and the picturesque and colorful streets. Dinner on the island and return to Dakar.

DAY 3: DAKAR – LAC ROSE – KAYAR – LAC ROSE (Approximately 75km/01h30)
Continue to Lake Rose or Lake Retba, which owes its fame to its pink tint depending on the intensity of the sun's rays. Discovery of the lake with its salt collectors then swimming in the salt lake, rinsing in the fresh water springs, in the shade of the banana trees. Lunch, then visit to Kayar; one of the largest traditional fishing ports in Senegal also renowned for its colorful boats. Dinner and overnight at the Trarza hotel at Lac Rose

DAY 4: LAC ROSE – SAINT LOUIS (Approximately 240 km/04h)
Road to the North passing through the market gardening region of Niayes: tomatoes, cherries, peppers, papayas, mangoes, cassava. Arrival late morning in St Louis. Installation at the hotel and lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the old colonial city of Saint-Louis. From the legendary Mermoz and Saint-Exupéry to the writer Pierre Loti, many have succumbed to the advances of this city “crossroads of ethnicities and cultures”. Dinner of Saint Louis specialties.

DAY 5: SAINT LOUIS – DJOUDJ PARK – SAINT LOUIS. (Approximately 120 km/02h)
Morning dedicated to visiting the Djoudj National Park. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the first water point after crossing the Sahara for migratory birds. Visit the Park by canoe or boat through the backwaters.  Lunch in the park. Return to St Louis and free end of the afternoon, ideal for strolling and relaxing. Dinner and night at the Post Office hotel from St. Louis.

DAY 6: SAINT LOUIS – THIES – NDANGANE (Approximately 310 km / 05h)
Morning road to the green Saloum delta.  Lunch break in Thiès, former railway capital of Senegal Along the way, inland, meet villagers and herds of zebu with Fulani shepherds. Continuation towards the small river port of Ndangane, gateway to the Saloum Delta. Check-in at the hotel.  Pirogue ride  through the mangrove and discovery of the bird island, at sunset.  Dinner and overnight at the Cordons Bleus hotel from Ndangane, in Saloum.

DAY 7: NDANGANE – MAR LODJ – NDANGANE (30 mins canoe return)
Crossing to the picturesque island of Mar Lodj, just opposite Ndangane. Transport by horse-drawn carriage, the only means of transport for the inhabitants, mostly of the Serere ethnic group. Visit the main village built around a majestic cheese maker. Meeting with the main notables and artisans, short tour of the market and the church. Lunch by the lagoon and return to your hotel for a relaxing afternoon by the swimming pool or at the beach. Possibility of horse riding (around €15 per hour)
Dinner and night at the hotel;Cordons Bleus.

DAY 8: NDANGANE – FADIOUTH – JOAL – DAKAR (Approximately 140 km/02h30)
Departure for Joal -Fadiouth taking the magnificent Samba Dia track, famous for its palm tree forest as far as the eye can see, its giant baobabs and its welcoming villages. Lunch in Joal, which is located on the continent, then visit Fadiouth, built on a small island littered with shells connected to the mainland by a long wooden footbridge. This site hosts a shell cemetery where Muslim and Catholic tombs coexist in peace. Another area is devoted to millet granaries, built on stilts. Continuation on the Petite Côte passing by the house of the former poet president Senghor then by the fishing port of Mbour to witness the spectacle of the arrival of the fishermen before returning to Dakar.


Recommended pick-up at 09:00 a.m. for return isimed at 5:30 p.m.
Museums closed on Monday.
